Empowered women build stronger societies.

Creating livelihoods for women goes beyond income generation. It drives social and economic progress, with women playing a central role in transforming communities.

Unfortunately, while women constitute nearly half of India’s rural workforce their participation remains underutilised. By curating livelihood opportunities that are inclusive, we can help women unlock their potential and move towards empowerment in society,

At Villgro, we support initiatives that open doors for women to thrive. We also recognize that qualifications for a job can take many forms—often extending far beyond conventional degrees and certificates. And so, our team focuses on creating novel & inclusive opportunities.

Take a look at three of our standout enterprises making real impact –

1. Women as Soil Health Technicians

EKOSIGHT is creating a new village-level entrepreneur, the ‘Soil Didi’. Armed with a soil testing kit, women can earn additional income by using technology to provide data-backed advice related to soil health and inputs.

This initiative helps small farmers optimize crop yields while reducing chemical dependency. By offering actionable insights into soil health, these women play a critical role in improving agricultural outcomes while gaining economic independence.

2. Women as Community Health Entrepreneurs

Villgro partners with SPOTSENSE & PLUS TRUST to train women entrepreneurs in using mobile diagnostic devices for diseases like thyroid and hepatitis, delivering doorstep screenings and connecting patients to local healthcare in remote areas.

Our NGO partner is key in training women to become Community Health Entrepreneurs. Equipped with skills in vital signs monitoring, menstrual hygiene education, first aid, and chronic disease management, these women bridge healthcare gaps in underserved regions. We believe the  Community Health Entrepreneur, empowered by innovative screening devices, will play a key role in improving health outcomes in rural areas while enabling women to engage in a dignified and meaningful profession.

3. Breaking Barriers with Women Driver Fleets

MOWO is creating a fleet of women drivers as they believe mobility offers more to a woman than the perceived benefit of ability to drive. This easy transferable skill gives her confidence, self-worth, a community and better employment.

By training women in driving and vehicle maintenance, MOWO helps them secure jobs in transportation services. This initiative not only promotes financial independence but also challenges gender stereotypes, enabling women to claim their space in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

Villgro supports initiatives that help women unlock their full potential.

By working with social enterprises that share the same goals, we are able to encourage the creation of a more inclusive work environment. And provide women with opportunities that will enhance their livelihoods but also address critical gaps in agriculture, healthcare and transportation.
