Areca nut dehusking machine that can improve productivity
Incubated Since Headquarters Sector Agriculture Sub-sector Farm mechanisation
The simple act of de-husking the areca nut prior to its sale turns the low margin crop into a highly profitable commodity. However, it is a labour-intensive task in a sector with an acute labour shortage
IWAC developed an automatic areca nut dehusking machine that dehusks arecanut at a rate of 280 kilogram per hour – almost 6 times that of manual labor.
It has opened up a cost effective localized solution for Areca nut farmers to engage in the value addition of their crop at the farm. Value addition of this sort retains profits in the farms and enhances rural wealth creation.
