The Entrepreneur

Founder and Chief Medical Officer of OneBreath, an alumnus of Stanford Biodesign and a Consulting Assistant Professor of Surgery at Stanford University. Dr. Matthew Callaghan is the founder of three medical device companies including OneBreath.

The Challenge

3.6 million people die from a respiratory illness in India every year and it was estimated that 46% of the population in who were admitted to an ICU during the H1N1 pandemic required a mechanical ventilator. A ventilator, even if it is available, is not portable or inexpensive.

The Innovation

OneBreath’s initial offering is a ventilator intended for use in ICUs, emergency rooms, and ambulances. The OneBreath ventilator is designed to provide continuous respiratory support for infant through adult patients. It is optimized for low resource environments and designed for novice through advanced users.

The Impact

Over 7 lakh OneBreath ventilators have been sold for the pandemic preparedness program in the UK and the US.
