Providing affordable clean water with zero plastic waste.

Incubated Since 2014 Headquarters Auroville, India Sector Other Sub-sector Water

The Entrepreneur

Minhaj Ameen has a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Govt. Engineering College Ujjain and an MBA in finance from Manchester Business School. Prior to Amrutdhara, he worked as a senior consultant for organisations such as ZS Associates and IBM Global Services.

The Challenge

Water that is commercially sold is usually sold in cheap, non-reusable plastic bottles. It has been found that India generates almost 5.6 million metric tonnes of plastic waste every year. This is not good for the planet.

The Innovation

AmrutDhara has created a clean water vending machine that provides water upon payment of money. Using human centered design principles and tools, they are delivering a simple, intuitive experience. Put a coin in, push a button, get water out.

The Impact

The use of this machine helps reduce the enormous amount of plastic waste in streets, landfills and water bodies, helping India get one step closer to our goal of being 'Swachh Bharat'. They are working to establish, through collaboration, a network of machines in major cities in urban India, so that a clean glass of water is never far away.
